Pros and Cons of Taking AP English (at Monrovia)

Pro
Prepared for college
AP English is an excellent class for preparing yourself for college life.  A large compendium project is due towards the end of every nine-weeks and are useful tools for learning important time management skills needed to succeed in college

Con
Lack of sleep
Unfortunately, because you are a high school student who is most likely taking a couple other AP classes, you don’t really have the ability to manage your time well and get things done early. This results in a lot of stressful late nights and panicky mornings.

Pro
Better paper writing skills
One bonus of all those late nights trying to start and finish a paper that you had a month to do is that you get really good at writing last minute papers. This ability will be useful in college when you choose not to utilize your time management skills.

Con

Stressful
AP English by itself is not necessarily a particularly hard class, it only gets hard when you procrastinate. Unfortunately, most AP English students are also in other AP classes. Between the large workload for English and the work and studying for other classes the stress can build up.
