The Bart Cassida

    Many of the students at Monrovia High School know Mr. Cassida as the Algebra II or the Girl’s Track & Field coach. But many are unaware of the part of him that is slightly obsessed with Steve Prefontaine. Cassida claims that “Prefontaine is one of the most iconic runners of all time.” He also shared with me that Steve Prefontaine was the first person to ever wear a pair of Nikes. He wore the prototype to test them. Cassida explains, “We will never fully understand or know Prefontaine, but we can get a better understanding by watching the movie ‘Steve Prefontaine.’ Which is why I show it to my track girls every season.”
