Petting Zoo Attacked by Dogs

Staff reporter Linsey McCloud
A little farm/petting zoo called Campbell Farm outside of Wapato, Yakima County that was normally peaceful was anything but that Monday morning. A maintenance worker reported a grisly accident Monday morning around 7:30. That still didn’t prepare farm director Carmanita Pimms for what was in store for her. She said she saw Naomi the goat first, “I saw the top part of her nose and mouth were completely gone. I went around the corner and just saw blood smeared on the wall.” There were also two other goats, a pig, and miniature horse dead and a donkey left mauled. Three dogs were still in the corral when animal control arrived: a Pitbull, German Shepherd, and Border Collie. The Pitbull and German Shepherd were shot and the Border Collie was not since it didn’t seem to be disturbing the donkey. The dogs were checked for chips but they didn’t have any, and authorities have concluded they will not be searching for the owners. They have also concluded they are keeping the donkey in a pen closer to the staff house until they feel it’s safe again to put him back in his pen.
