Who Won the Pot of Gold?

Staff Reporter Deana Fishel
Our Monrovia yearbook staff hosted the first annual Shamrock Game on March 17, 2015. Student varsity basketball boy and girl players competed against MHS Staff. With a final score of 52-50, the students won the pot of gold trophy.
The yearbook staff spent weeks preparing for the game. Yearbook member Makayla Rice said, “We had a meeting and Addison Judson came up with the game idea. We started planning back in January. We sat down as a group about once a week to come up with ideas. We all asked each teacher and Mr. Springer if they thought it was a good idea. Everyone thought it sounded good, so we just sent the information out to the teachers and basketball team. We also wanted Dr. Roberson involved so we asked if he would like to coach the teachers and he agreed.”
What about the turnout? “We were very surprised at the turnout, We were expecting people to show up, but not as many as there were. We were really excited and are extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution.” Having sent out a total of about 900 flyers, Mrs. Fisher was happy with the little over 120 who attended. Mrs. Fisher was very thrilled about how the game turned out and cannot wait to make next year’s game bigger and better than this year’s.
