Pokemon Tragedy

Staff Reporter Lauren Frentz

March 13th, a tragic day for The Pokemon Company and for the children that grew up loving the adventures of Ash Ketchum and his unique companions. Eric Medalle had been a graphic designer and artist for the large company for many years until a windstorm hit in Seattle. He was driving with his 2 year-old daughter when a tree fell and crashed into the car, killing Medalle and injuring his child. The community has rallied together to console one another and create a savings fund for his two daughters to ensure their college education.

First Outdoor Track Meet

Staff Reporter Garrett Wertz
Both the boys and girls track teams demolished Cloverdale and Covenant Christian in the first outdoor track meet. Monrovia took first place overall in the meet, with Cloverdale coming in second and Covenant at a close third. There were many individual first places through the night on both teams such as Jarred Baker in the 300 meter hurdles, Kara Beasley in the 100 meter hurdles, the boys 4x400 meter dash, and Kayla Coryea in the one mile and 800 meter run. Great job to the Monrovia track team!

Breakfast

Staff Reporter Gabi Ritter

Do you still eat breakfast? Do you have the time to sit down and eat a nutritious breakfast every morning before you scramble off to school? When was the last time you ate breakfast, an actual breakfast and not a snack you grabbed on your way rushing out of the house? Was it this weekend? Was it last summer or before you started school? Is school ruining the health and wellness of its students by be being too early for them to eat the most important meal of the day? Do you feel focused before you leave for school? You tell me.

FFA Bulbs Bloom

Back in October… some dedicated founding chapter members dug rows and planted 800 daffodil and tulip bulbs.  The first round of them reached for the sky this week.  And, thankfully there are many more FFA members to harvest them. Pots are available from Mr. Gillum. The proceeds go to our FFA chapter.

Girl Stabbed Before Prom

As the prom season continues, dresses are being bought, "promposals" are being executed, and the stress is rising! Prom could possibly be the best night of your life...or the worst. Maren Sanchez experienced the latter before prom even began. At 7:15 a.m. in Jonathon Law High School hallway, Sanchez was confronted by her attacker (his name is being withheld) and stabbed multiple times in the neck, chest, and face. She was rushed to the nearest hospital and pronounced dead at 7:40 a.m.Her attacker supposedly asked Maren to accompany him to prom and after Sanchez refused, her murderer began to assault her. The motive is still under investigation and the prom was postponed due to the outcry of the community.

Authorities in Spain seized 20,000 ISIS uniforms. The uniforms were hidden in shipping containers and labeled as “secondhand clothes”. Trump's Bankruptcy

“Perhaps it’s time America was run like a business” ...how can a man successfully run a nation as a business when he is no stranger to chapter 11 bankruptcy? Trump's long line of business failures consist of real estate, steaks, vodka, mortgages, airlines, universities, famous casino blunders, etc. “We need somebody that can take the brand of the United States and make it great again.” Do we honestly trust a man who's brands plummet with a thud to manage our home?

Class Scheduling

As the third 9-weeks comes to a close, our wonderful guidance counselors will be making preparations for the next school year. They schedule classes and ask you if you know how you want your next year to go. Now you basically have two options: Put yourself on track to graduate with an honors diploma or go with the general core 40. Now both are great options, but each and every person should attempt to challenge themselves. Challenging yourself is different for every person. For some it could be taking AP and honors classes, while for others it could be attempting to maintain a B average for the year. Regardless of you, plan to challenge yourself, right now is the time to set it up.

Slavery

Do you remember when America had slaves? Well thank goodness that that’s over, right? Well, it’s not. Over 27,000,000 people are still enslaved worldwide. But at least it’s not happening here in the U.S., right? WRONG! An estimated 25,600 cases are reported each year where young people are kidnapped and forced into slavery. “Well I’m just one person, what can I do?” Every February 25, participants draw a red X on their hand to help spread awareness. Let’s help to truly put an end to slavery!

March comes in like a lion and leaves like a lamb. Try not to get too depressed or heartbroken over this cold weather we have been experiencing. Remember this is the lion. You have a week or two and then it becomes a lamb. The warm is coming in just a few days. Hold on, relax, it’s coming!

Makeup Testing on Animals

To all the girls who wear makeup: Have you ever thought about animal cruelty? Most makeup brands do testing on animals, and to sell in China it is required. Why is it not okay to beat a dog, but it is okay to give bunnies, monkeys, rats, and pigs shots? If you ever dare to google pictures of animals testing cosmetics you will realize what kind of torture they go through.

Want to know what brands test on animals?
The list goes past makeup and skin care.

I prefer to look at brands that are cruelty free, that way I know what I am looking for versus what I am avoiding.. I know exactly where to go.
p.s. a full list is at the bottom of the chart as another link on the website

If you wish to change the world of even a few animals, change what brands you buy for.

Jaclyn Hill

Jaclyn Hill, a successful makeup artist has changed my perspective, in a good way, on many things. From  bullying to how to look at bad things that happened in life in a positive way, Jaclyn is so optimistic it might just make you wonder if she is ever upset. Now, even though she is famous she does get bashed on a lot for small things other people see as errors in herself. In spite of all of the hate Jaclyn gets, she is a very cheery person and will make your day better just by a single Snap-story or Tweet. Although she can have some colorful language.  She is an adult. She is a very optimistic person.
Jaclyn has started off her life pretty rough. Coming from almost nothing and turning into this pop sensation, she has TOTALLY evolved. With starting her young life out as poor, not knowing when the next meal was turned around to “Hey, Jon lets order out and watch T.V. tonight.”. She has overcome many hardships in life and still is up and going! Jaclyn is such an inspiration because she is the true definition of brave, optimistic, and hopeful. With being all these great things, Jaclyn is also a makeup artist.
Now let's talk a little bit about Jaclyn, Jaclyn LOVES makeup and everything about it. Jaclyn has had a youtube channel for awhile but she has deleted some of her first posts because they weren’t up to par with how she sees herself and her makeup now. At first, she was not known by hardly anyone at all and that is completely okay because if you see where she is at in life right now, you would know she deserves everything she has. Following her not being known, people started to see potential in her makeup and see how good she actually was. Word got out that Jaclyn was amazing with makeup!
Now, on to the different varieties of makeup she has introduced to us. From Becca Cosmetics, NYX, Elf, and many more anything she touches, SELL OUT. In the collaboration of Becca Cosmetics with Jaclyn Hill they made Champagne Pop. Now, before you start thinking wow, they made a type of champagne just wait. In this collaboration, they made a highlighter. To most people, a highlighter is something you buy at Wal-Mart and you use it to highlight certain things on a paper. However, to people who love makeup we see it as a great item that just sets the makeup together. To show you what this is, here is a link! http://www.sephora.com/becca-x-jaclyn-hill-shimmering-skin-perfector-pressed-P398805. This is the holy grail to all makeup artists. Yes, I may have a biased opinion because I adore Jaclyn, but this is seriously the best highlighter I have ever used. It stays on well, does not look chalky, and is all together well rounded.
All in all, Jaclyn is my idol and I hope you got to know her! Also, she has her own website if you would like to check it out to know more about her! http://www.jaclynhillmakeup.com/

Men Can Do Their Makeup Too

How much better can this get? Men, makeup, and men that can do their makeup. A male Youtuber, @MannyMua, has collaborated with MakeupGeek in making a palette called “Manny MUA”. Manny’s palette contains nine eyeshadows, three of them being foiled which means they have a heavier look, and six regular powder eye shadows. “This has been a huge dream of Manny’s for a long time,” says Jaclyn Hill, makeup artist, “and now his dream is finally coming true!”
He collaborated with MakeupGeek to make this palette. Other makeup companies will be swarming Manny to get him to collaborate with them.
Seeing Manny’s accomplishments as a person and as a beauty perfectionist has been amazing to watch. Manny lives in California and has been to Hawaii twice in these past two months for makeup related trips.
Check him out on youtube if you would like a bomb tutorial on how to do your makeup. His makeup styles vary anywhere from natural to a really glam look.
