The McDonald’s franchise made the decision to stop placing fitness trackers in their “Happy Meals”. McDonald’s has been including “Step It” fitness trackers in the kid’s meals and there have been numerous complaints about skin irritation filed. “We have taken this swift and voluntary step after receiving limited reports of potential skin irritations that may be associated from wearing the band,” Terri Hickey reported (spokeswoman for McDonald’s) There was a case on Facebook about it last week. A woman said that her child was burned by the fitness tracker after only playing with it for eight minutes. The Happy Meal toy is a plastic pedometer watch worn to keep track of steps the person takes. "It's nice to be able to have something that encourages kids to be more active, instead of handing out a big ice cream cone along with it," said Thebner( pediatrician in New York)
Fitness is a controversial topic in the fast food industry but safety always has to be first in all products.
