Japanese Steakhouse

Staff Reporter Rowan Gast-Bray

Have you recently had a fancy for Asian cuisine? Well, there is now some variety in Mooresville. The A1 Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi is an impressive establishment. They have an aesthetic interior with the cooks clearly visible as they work hard to make your meal. However, the cooks do not try to put on a show like at Benihana's but, it made me understand how fast you have to be to be able to work in the restaurant business. Their menu boasts many exotic ingredients like eel or snow crab. The menu is extensive as it really doubles as a steakhouse and a sushi place. I ordered a sushi roll stuffed with lobster and avocado; it was garnished with mango. The sweetness from the mango is a pleasant contrast to the salt from the rest of the dish. Overall, it was a good experience. MHS senior Chase Meek, a server there for five weeks, has the inside scoop. He recommends the dragon roll which is shrimp tempura and cucumber with avocado and eel sauce draped on top. Apparently, the fish and everything else is quite fresh. There are four shipments a week. See you at the sushi counter.
