Riley Dance Marathon

Our Monrovia National Honor Society will be hosting a Riley Dance Marathon on March 17th. We will be dancing in order to raise money for Riley Hospital. Last year we raised $2,644.87. This year the National Honor Society aims to raise $5,000. There will be snacks and activities to do the whole night. With a St. Patrick's day theme, who would not want to be there? Stayed tuned for more details about this great cause.

A Dog's Purpose Review

Belgium’s New Baby

The Planckendael Zoo in Belgium gained a new member on January 19. A new baby giraffe was born in the zoo early Thursday morning. The mother giraffe was also born in the same zoo. The mother giraffe had been pregnant for fifteen months! The baby giraffe was born measuring five feet and seven inches and the gender is still yet to be determined.

Honey Barbecue Chicken Wings

Ingredients
18 chicken wings
½ cup flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon chili powder
½ teaspoon black pepper
Cooking spray
1 cup barbecue sauce
½ cup honey
2 tablespoons hot sauce
4 tablespoons butter
½ teaspoon garlic powder



Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 425
  2. In a bowl mix flour, salt, garlic powder, chili powder and black pepper
  3. Wash, dry and dip the wings into the flour mixture to coat
  4. Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray
  5. Spread wings in a single layer on the sheet and bake for 35-40 minutes, turning once halfway through
  6. While the wings are baking make the sauce by simmering barbecue sauce, honey, hot sauce, butter and ½ teaspoon garlic powder in a sauce pan
  7. When the wings are done dip them into the sauce and bake for another five minutes or until sauce is bubbling

Chocolate Satin Pie

Ingredients
1 9 inch graham cracker crust
1 12 ounce can evaporated milk
2 large egg yolks
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Whipped cream
Chopped nuts

  1. Whisk evaporated milk and egg yolks in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring constantly.
  2. Wait for the mixture to get very hot and thicken before removing from stove top and stirring in chocolate
  3. Once mixture is smooth pour into the premade crust and refrigerate at least 3 hours
  4. Serve with whipped cream and chopped nuts

Free Stuff for Good Grades!!

Report Card Rewards—freebies and discounts for hard work!
(This list has not been updated in the past year.  Please call to verify offers before you go, just to be safe.)

·         Graeter’s: This ice cream store offers a free kid’s cone for an A on your report card, for kids grades K-8.

·         Chick-Fil-A: Bring in your all A’s and B’s report card and receive a FREE 8 pack nuggets.

·         McDonald’s: Students with a straight “A” report card receive: Kindergarten-5th grades – free Happy Meal. 6th-12th grades – free Value Meal. Call your local McDonald’s to see if they participate.

·         Wendy’s: Students who received A’s and B’s on their report card and bring it into Wendy’s will receive a free frosty. Not all locations participate.

·         Krispy Kreme Donuts: In most areas, Krispy Kreme (the retail donut stores only) will give your child a free donut for an “A”.

·          Chuck E. Cheese Tokens For Grades: Chuck E. Cheese locations give away free tokens for good grades. They accept all types of grading systems, and will give away a maximum of 15 tokens. Currently, an “A” or equivalent is worth 3 tokens, a “B” is worth 2 tokens, and a “C” is worth 1 token. Note: You must make a food purchase for this offer.

·         Pizza Hut THREE A’S PROGRAM: Each grading period, any child who has 3 A’s or the equivalent thereof, will receive one Personal Pan Pizza and a small soft drink or carton of milk by presenting his or her report card to the manager. This offer is good for Elementary and Middle School students. Dine-in only. Student must be present and the original report card must be presented. Available at participating locations

·         Fazoli's Friendly Reader Program: Every five books read and/or perfect attendance earns a free kid’s meal.

·         Orange Leaf: Students can take their report card to this frozen yogurt store which gives a free ounce of frozen yogurt for every A (up to 6).

·         Gatti’s Pizza:  Bring your child’s report card to earn free gameplay, as follows:
All A’s = $3.75 in gameplay
B’s & Better = $2.50 in gameplay
C’s & Better = $1.25 in gameplay
Report card must be presented within 2 weeks of receipt. Call current locations to verify.

·         Applebee’s: The A is for Apple Program gives kids a certificate for a free kids' meals. This program is only open to schools, though. If you're a parent, contact your child's teacher to let her know about this program that offers rewards for students.

·         Baskin-Robbins: Earn a free scoop of ice cream. Bring in your report card showing good grades to get your freebie.

·         Justice Stores: Tween girl retail store Justice will give you $5 off your purchase. Bring in a good report card that's been issued within the past 30 days.

·         Long John Silver’s: While this program is only open to schools, it rewards students with meals for a number of achievements on top of academic excellence. School administrators need to contact the local restaurant to participate.

·         Family Video: Throughout the month of June, Family Video gives a FREE overnight movie or game rental to students for every ‘A’ they receive on their final report card in any core subjects designed to ensure that we are an active, participating member of the community in which our store is located.

·         Cold Stone Creamery: Not on a national level, but the stores are individual owned & operated so the best thing to do would be to ask your local store as some have offered them in the past.

·         Cheryl’s Cookies: Get up to 3 FREE Cookies for A’s.

·         Kudzoo App: Middle school and college students can download the FREE Kudzoo app and build Kudzoo cash to use in your favorite places, from restaurants to concerts. Earn the grades, scan the report cards then spend your Kudzoo cash! There is also a daily challenge round and coupons to help college students boost their savings!

Banks: We are finding that several banks offer report card savings rewards programs for kids with good grades, such as $1 for A’s and 50¢ for B’s, etc.  The participating banks are scattered all over the country. Our recommendation is that you call your own bank to see if they have a similar offering.

Shia LaBeouf Arrested at Anti-Trump Protest

Shia LaBeouf was apparently involved in a scuffle outside of the Museum of the Moving Image. This followed with his arrest. The former ¨Transformers¨ star is planning to protest President Trump for the next four years with an art exhibit outside of the museum. The exhibit will include a white wall with the words HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US with a camera underneath it. LaBeouf encourages the surrounding public to participate by screaming the message into the camera while streaming live.
