Leighann York - Newest "To Be" 2017 Track & Field Record Holder

Staff Reporter Paige Pearison
It was a pleasure to be able to interview Leighann York and ask her many of the questions that I have been wondering about. My first question was why she chose to run track and what was her reasoning behind all her immense dedication? York states that she "strives to be in the best shape" that she can and that a lot of her friends ran track. York hopes to break the pole vault record currently held by Brooke Miller at 9'2" in the 2017 season. York plans to run the 4x100 relay (100m per runner x 4) and the 4x800 (2 laps around the track). York was on the 4x100 Conference-winning relay last year. York also plans to step up to run the 4x400 meter relay whenever it is needed. Her goals for the year are to get a personal best in all of her running events and a higher vault height (obviously breaking the record)! York's highest vault in the 2016 season was 9'. Therefore, she is very close to breaking the record. With hard work and dedication, I have no doubt this athlete will soar in the 2017 season.
