Do teenagers think about the long lasting effects that come from sex? Do schools make
students aware of them? Is there a connection between the sex education curriculum in school and the
pregnancy rate?
Three percent of female teenagers have given birth, seventeen percent of whom have
had more than one child. In Indiana the birth rate is 30.3, that means around 30 births per
1,000 adolescent females.
School should teach the long lasting possible effects that having sex can bring. Sexuallly
Transmitted Diseases and pregnancy rates are higher at schools that teach only abstinence.
So here is the real question: Would teaching students to have safe sex help keep
those numbers low?
Chances are that the answer is yes. For example: if the school handed out
condoms, sexually active students would be more likely to use them due to the fact they have
easier access.
