Breast Cancer Awareness Month


October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In honor of this month here are 10 facts about breast cancer.

  1. The American Cancer Society estimates about 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer live in the U.S.


  1. About 85% of the women who get breast cancer have no history of it in their family.


  1. Men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer. About 2,150 are diagnosed every year.


  1. Women today have a 1 in 8 chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their life.


  1. Breast cancer is 29% of newly diagnosed cancer each year.


  1. Exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer for all women.


  1. Minimizing alcohol intake also reduces the risk.


  1. Those who have previously been diagnosed with breast cancer are four times more at risk of developing breast cancer again.


  1. The risk of overweight women developing breast cancer after menopause is 1.5 times higher than their more fit peers.


  1. If you are diagnosed with breast cancer a second opinion can save your life.
