October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. In honor of this month here are 10 facts about breast cancer.

- The American Cancer Society estimates about 2.8 million women with a history of breast cancer live in the U.S.
- About 85% of the women who get breast cancer have no history of it in their family.
- Men can also be diagnosed with breast cancer. About 2,150 are diagnosed every year.
- Women today have a 1 in 8 chance of being diagnosed with breast cancer during their life.
- Breast cancer is 29% of newly diagnosed cancer each year.
- Exercise reduces the risk of breast cancer for all women.
- Minimizing alcohol intake also reduces the risk.
- Those who have previously been diagnosed with breast cancer are four times more at risk of developing breast cancer again.
- The risk of overweight women developing breast cancer after menopause is 1.5 times higher than their more fit peers.
- If you are diagnosed with breast cancer a second opinion can save your life.
