Monrovia Holds Up to Ritter
After a hard-fought football battle, the Monrovia girls soccer team was eager to put up a good fight as well. Being beat in the past years by Ritter's soccer team by a 10-12 point lead, the girls knew they had a major job to step up to do. The girls used many different tactical options to try and beat the team. They came out with a loss against Ritter, 2-5. The team has improved tremendously, and the ladies believe they will triumph in a win against Ritter during the sectionals.

Mamba Day
Staff Reporter Zach Cottrell
With a legend leaving the NBA last year, the city of Los Angeles wanted to bless him for all of the moments he had given them. Kobe Bryant was the one of the greatest players to ever touch the floor. With his idol being Michael Jordan, he constantly tried to mirror him with his play and achieving an 18 time All-Star, leading the league in scoring, and being MVP in 2008. He showed his love for the city of Los Angeles by being loyal to the association and staying with them for all 20 years of his professional career. In return for the 20 years and the five championships Kobe brought the city, they declared August 24 Kobe Bryant Day. This date was chosen because it represents both of the jersey numbers he wore. At the beginning of his career he wore the number 8 but switched to 24 because he said he wanted to be one better than Michael Jordan.

Recently 1,500 Americans were found washed up in Canada after their peaceful day at the annual Port Huron Float Down turned into a bit of a disaster. A day of relaxing and having fun, floating on rafts, ended abruptly with heavy winds and rain, which sent them all the way up to Canada. They were rescued by Canadian authorities and were sent back down to the U.S on buses. Luckily everyone made it home safe and sound.
Student Section
Staff Reporter Amber Schalk
After lots of confusion and difficulty last week, our student section at the football game Friday night against Cardinal Ritter was full of energy. With the theme being green and white, we decided to change things up and have seniors wear black, juniors wear white, and sophomores & freshmen wear green. This gave us a chance to get closer as classes as well as a student body. We all gathered together to cheer on our Bulldogs to their victory, with great plays made by Bryan Cox, Dalton Smith, and Aaron Cravens. Next week the theme with be Dirt Night. To get updates about the student section be sure to follow @bulldogsunleashed on instagram. Also feel free to send ideas you may have for themes or anything else to do in the student section.

Olympics Sweep
Staff Reporter Zach Cottrell
As of August 17, 2016, history was made in the 100 meter hurdles, with three americans making a sweep taking first, second, and third in the event. This was one of the sixty-one sweeps in Olympic history. What makes this so special is it was the first sweep in the 100m hurdle event and that it was the first ever women's sweep. Brianna Rollins had a great birthday present seizing a gold medal with a time of 12.48. Nia Ali took silver with a 12.59, and Kristi Castlin captured a bronze with a slightly slower time of 12.61. Watch their win.

Black Bears Coming Back to Indiana?
Staff Reporter Leighann York
A recent sighting of a black bear traveling through Indiana has been the second one since the 1870’s. It is said that Indiana could be coming across more black bears in the near time future. Bordering states like Michigan, Kentucky and Ohio have black bears that may come over and adapt to Indiana.
The first sighting of a black bear in Indiana was 150 years ago until the first sighting of last year. A young male bear would travel from Michigan to Indiana feeding off of people’s garbage. The bear currently that has been traveling Indiana is most likely to travel to Michigan to find a mate. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources is saying to put up bird feeders and put lids on garbage cans to keep the bear away from human beings.

McDonalds vs Fitness
Staff Reporter Bre Tharp
The McDonald’s franchise made the decision to stop placing fitness trackers in their “Happy Meals”. McDonald’s has been including “Step It” fitness trackers in the kid’s meals and there have been numerous complaints about skin irritation filed. “We have taken this swift and voluntary step after receiving limited reports of potential skin irritations that may be associated from wearing the band,” Terri Hickey reported (spokeswoman for McDonald’s) There was a case on Facebook about it last week. A woman said that her child was burned by the fitness tracker after only playing with it for eight minutes. The Happy Meal toy is a plastic pedometer watch worn to keep track of steps the person takes. "It's nice to be able to have something that encourages kids to be more active, instead of handing out a big ice cream cone along with it," said Thebner( pediatrician in New York)
Fitness is a controversial topic in the fast food industry but safety always has to be first in all products.

Monrovia Boys First Game
Staff Reporter Paige Pearison
Prospering due to winning State last year, the football team is prepared to take on their first game of the season. They are playing Cardinal Ritter this Friday at Lucas Oil Stadium at 6pm. Many people think that losing to Ritter last year was the reason we won state, because it knocked us off our “pedestal.” The team hopes to make their alumni proud by making it far again, possibly even finishing where they are starting. This team practices five days a week. They also have one game a week. I love watching this team play. Not only do they work hard for their team, but they leave their hearts out on the field for our town. This team makes me so proud to call Monrovia “home.” Come out and support your football team this Friday night!

The Terrifying Tibia Break
The French gymnast Samir Ait had a horrific experience during the qualifications for vault in the Rio Olympics 2016. After flinging himself off the vault table, he landed incorrectly on his feet and his tibia broke beneath him. Once Ait was on the gurney, he raised his arm to his fans to acknowledge them before being rushed to the hospital.
This is not the first injury to the leg for Ait. Samir Ait fractured his leg in three places during the European Championship in 2012.
Justin Bieber Quitting Instagram?
Staff Reporter Ariana Delong
It seems that the leader of the Beliebers has quit, or is close to quitting, Instagram. For the past few weeks, Justin Bieber has posted multiple pictures of him and Lionel Richie's daughter, a 17 year-old model. This caused backlash and Justin had had enough after a flood of rude comments toward Richie appeared (as well as multiple snake emojis which after the Taylor Swift/Kardashian feud has shown to be a pretty big insult in the media). Justin took to Instagram again, threatening to turn his profile on private saying that, "If you guys were really fans, you wouldn't be so mean to people I like." This of course outraged many fans, and even sparked a comment from his former on-again off-again girlfriend Selena Gomez. The pop-star and Justin went at it for a moment until Selena finished it up with this: "Funny how the ones who cheated multiple times are pointing the finger at the ones that were forgiving and supportive, no matter fans are mad. Sad. All love." Hmm. Seems as though Justin may have some explaining to do. This sparked the new hashtag #SelenaEndedJustinBieberParty, and now everyone seems to be talking about it through social media. We'll have to see how this unfolds the rest of the week. You can see the full conversation between Selena and Justin above.
