On Friday, July 29, a 7-year-old girl was killed after being hit with a rock that was thrown at her head by one of the zoo’s elephants. The girl did not die instantly, but a few hours later after she was transferred to the hospital. Although the staff of the zoo sent condolences to the family, their enclosure met the requirements for safety. This is the first incident hurting a visitor at Rabat Zoo since its opening in 2012.
