Corn Flies in the Midwest

Staff Reporter Cassidy Lawrence
If you live in the Midwest states, you must have noticed those pesky flies all around. You might mistake them to be Sweat Bees or Yellow Jackets, but they’re actually Corn Flies. Purdue University has been researching these flies. So far, they have found out that the Corn Flies are attracted to salt and need to be wet. Corn flies start out as maggots that crawl around on corn. They eventually grow up to become flies that swarm in muggy air. Do not worry, the Corn Flies are completely harmless and do not sting!
